Partial Stipend
Nes artist residency has been sponsored by the Cultural Committee of North-western Iceland to enhance the cultural life of the region. This enables us to award partial stipends to 15-20 artists in 2010.
This partial stipend will be awarded to about one artist a month who wants to interact with the community in any way in the year 2009 and 2010. This may be a performance, a “happening,” an art class, a presentation or any other activity that would engage or interact with the public at large in the North western region of Iceland. The recipients will receive the stipend after the event, and all applicants are eligible to apply.
The application deadline for a partial stipend is on March 15th and August 1st for 2010. To apply for the partial stipend please fill out the application form including a short description of the project intended for the award and also send in a full application if you have not already done so.
Housing and studio facilities
Artists are provided with a studio space and a private bedroom. Residents live in apartments in five modest comfortable houses and row-houses all including separate bedrooms and a living room, bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities shared by all the residents.
The studios are open studios located in a former fishing plant. Each room gets a space about 12m2 (120 sqf). Each studio space is equipped with a table-top, two saw horses, stool, chair, shelf unit and a lamp. Residents will have to cover the cost of travel, food, art materials and and possible shipping of art back home.
Residency fees:
- € 550 for a single room: one person, one bed, one studio space.
- € 700 for a double room: two persons, two beds/one double bed, one studio space. This is the option for those receiving a guest during the residency.
- € 900 for a family apartment: two bedrooms, three beds/one double bed and one single (a bed for an extra child can be added), one studio space.
We ask all artists to pay the residency fee for Nes at the latest three months prior to your arrival in Skagaströnd. This arrangement will help us with placements of artists and give us ample time to fill your post in case you find that you are unable to come to Nes after all.
