You can mail things to yourself at the residency before you get here and receive personal mail to the studios:
Here’s how to address your mail:
Quite often artists are stung with high import taxes or charges to clear their package through Icelandic customs. If you can fit it in your suitcase, this is the easiest thing to do.
For custom benefits it is important to write “personal belongings, no commercial value”.
New items that are sent to Iceland are subject to an import tax you must pay before collection, this can be as high as 100% of the value of the goods! They will ask for your receipt or invoice that states the value of the items you send before they will deliver it.
**If sending art materials that you will need at Nes, it is recommended you check with your postal service in your country to be advised about transit times.
**If ordering things while here from ebay, amazon, or other international online retailers delivery times can vary between 1 week to 4 weeks depending on human error in the international postal services, often packages get run around all over Europe passing between a lot of European countries as they try to reroute (?!!?) or send it over to us here. Once it reaches Iceland it should only be 1-2 days from Reykjavik. Especially if sending with DHL or UPS make sure you correctly mark your items as used or personal items (not new), as new items carry a tax you are liable to pay in Iceland before they deliver it on to your address here.
