How to get to Skagaströnd

Arrival to Iceland

Many airlines fly to Iceland including  Icelandair, Iceland Express, WOWair (summer 2012), EasyJet (spring 2012), Delta Airlines, Air Berlin and Germanwings, you can find out about these and the Keflavik International Airport (KEF).

It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Keflavík to Reykjavík. There are always airport shuttles or “fly buses” avalible to take passengers from the airport to the BSI bus terminal in Reykjavik or a hotel in Reykjavik.

 

To Skagaströnd by bus

1. From Keflavík airport

Take the flybus from Keflavík airport to Reykjavík (duration 45 minutes).

The flybus stops at the BSI bus terminal and there you can take the bus to Skagaströnd.

You find prices and schedule of the flybus on their website http://flybus.is.

 

2. From Reykjavík bus terminal

The bus from Reykjavík to Skagaströnd departs from the BSI bus terminal.The bus company is called Sterna and the schedule you can find on their website http://sterna.is.

Make sure that you buy a ticket from Reykjavík to Skagaströnd.

You will take the bus that is going to Akureyri and get of the bus in Blönduós where you will be met by a shuttle bus that takes you to Skagaströnd. The shuttle is included as long as you have bought a ticket to Skagaströnd. People coming to the residency receive 25% off the bus rate but need to email the director of NES in advanced to arrange the discount.

3. From Blönduós

Remember to tell the bus driver that you are going to Skagaströnd so that he can make sure that the shuttle in Blönduós picks you up. The driver of the shuttle will bring you to the house that you will be staying at where you will be welcomed by the residency coordinators, Jacob and Andrea Kasper.

To Skagaströnd by car

1. Most of the car rentals allow you to pick up the car at Keflavík airport.

To drive to Skagaströnd from Keflavík you first take road 41 to Reykjavík.

From Reykjavík follow the signs to road #1 (the ring road) in direction Akureyri.

2. You drive until you come to Blönduós town which is about 250 km from Reykjavík.

Just after you come through Blönduós you make a left turn to road 74 and 23 km later you are in Skagaströnd.


3. The drive from Keflavík to Skagaströnd takes approximately 4 hours
