Artist in Residence Consuelo Cavaniglia is an interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on how we see and understand space. Currently based in Sydney, Australia, Consuelo graduated with a Masters of Fine Art at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, in 2017, and was the recipient of the Arts NSW Visual Art Fellowship (Emerging), 2016. She has exhibited extensively across Australia including Artspace, Sydney (2017), Perth Centre for Photography (2017); Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (2015); Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, Perth (2013). Consuelo is represented by Station, Melbourne and Kronenberg Wright Artists Projects, Sydney.
Taking its cues from film, photography and architecture, her work employs technically simple visual effects to distort perception and unsettle the relationship between viewer and space. Independent curatorial projects have consistently flanked Consuelo’s practice. She has developed a range of exhibitions including a major project involving the presentation of ephemeral artworks in public spaces. Interested in light and colour, Consuelo is at Nes to witness the extraordinary lighting and colour conditions in the Icelandic environment.
