Kate Hendry is an emerging visual artist and educator based on Kaurna Land, Adelaide, South Australia. Hendry received her Bachelor of Visual Art from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2024. As a self described, “unreliable narrator” her oil paintings explore the domestic, the intimate, and the mundane. In 2024, she was a finalist in the Kennedy Painting Prize. Since graduating, Kate has been awarded a 12 Month Residency at Floating Goose Studios, for a High Achieving Graduate. Her work has been included in group shows at Gallery M, SALA Festiva,l and Floating Goose Studios.

Since arriving to Iceland she has shifted her focus from cluttered interiors to exteriors of Icelandic houses set amongst a rugged and dramatic landscape. The houses are personified through the medium of oil paint. For the painter who anthropomorphises the house, whilst painting it, the house becomes something other than a dwelling, it sits somewhere within the blurry boundaries of portrait, figuration, and landscape.
