About

nes (noun)headland, peninsula

Nes Artist Residency (Nes Listamiðstöð) is an international residency established 2008 in Skagaströnd, a small village in Northwest Iceland. The studio at Fjörubraut 8 was once a fish processing plant in Skagaströnd. Nes provides artists, writers, and musicians with workspace and accommodation in a shared house, and the freedom to develop work at their own pace. Now one of the largest residencies in Iceland, Nes hosts between 90-120 artists per year, accepting applications year-round. Nes operates with foundational support from the Municipality of Skagaströnd and the Regional Development Institute Byggðastofnun, and has received funding for three local art initiatives: our Public Art Project, Light Up, and Artists in Schools. Writers-in-residence receive workspace through a partnership with Rannsóknasetri Háskóla Íslands, a beautiful research library overlooking the Húnaflói Bay. Since its founding, Nes has participated in a scholarship exchange program with Künstlerhaus Lukas.
