Heather Pinkham gave a solo concert in Hólaneskirkja on Wednesday January 28 at 17.00. The Program included Heather’s own piano compositions, as well pieces by Claude Debussy, Arvo Pärt, and William Bolcom.

HEATHER PINKHAM is a pianist, composer, and musicologist originally from California and residing in The Netherlands. She holds a Master of Music in Composition from Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg (where she studied with Anthony Fiumara), a Master of Arts in Cognitive Musicology from the University of Amsterdam, and a Bachelor of Arts double major in Music (piano performance and musicology) and Italian Studies from UC Berkeley. After graduating, she studied privately for two years with prominent Bay Area pianist Diane Hidy.Heather performs as a soloist with orchestras, most recently with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, where she performed her own piano concerto. She has composed for soloists Ralph van Raat, Vincent van Amsterdam, Maya Fridman, and Tom Sanderman, and for ensembles including the Merced Symphony Orchestra, the Euregio Jeugdorkest, November Music Festival, and the Opera Forward Festival in Amsterdam. In May 2020, Heather initiated Music for Empty Spaces, in which twelve composers wrote twelve pieces for twelve solo musicians reflecting on the corona crisis. The event was live-streamed by NPO Radio 4 from an empty Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam. A second edition followed in 2021, centered on the theme of the afterlife.Heather has participated in masterclasses with Malcolm Bilson, Bart van Oort, Malcolm Martineau, Simone Dinnerstein, and Roy Howat, and studied at La Schola Cantorum in Paris. Before moving to The Netherlands, she was rehearsal pianist for Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra, touring Eastern Europe and performing at Carnegie Hall.
