Ellen Avitts is spending November and December 2021 at NES. A professor of Art History specializing in architecture, Ellen is researching the material culture of houses in rural Iceland.
Her research begins with questions: What messages do we communicate through our houses? What objects or areas of the home are privileged and why? How are the things we place in our homes invested with meaning? She is also interested in how the layout of the house affects familial and social relationships. You can find more about Ellen here.
