Director’s Role

APPLICATIONS
Answer all emails
Read and assess all applications
Select artists for the residency
Create yearly schedule that incorporates the rooms available
Update schedule with those who have paid, not paid and part paid
Send out contracts
Update contracts as necessary re price adjustments etc
Update online forms as necessary
Send out emails to incoming artists re arriving to iceland and NES
Add their phone numbers to whatsApp
At times take artists to the doctors in Blönduós
Email Hugrún re access to the music school if we have a musician and same for Lárus if we need the dance studio.
Coordinate with Salthús for NES artists staying there.
Update ResArtists adverts as required.

FINANCES
Send out payment links to artists from Rapyd as necessary
Send to the accountant all invoices and copies of artists payments digitally
Handle all finances – pay Zoe, pay the cleaners and all other bills
Request cash payments when artists have guests staying and then take to the bank
Purchase items as needed.

WEBSITE
Maintain and update the website
Each month add the artists into the yearly list on the website
Each month put the artists profile piece on the website
Sort out things that are no longer working, check links etc

GRANT WRITING
Apply for grants
Create projects suitable for grant applications

SPECIAL PROJECTS

When we have funding for special projects like Light Up then send out adverts to the Alumni and newsletter list and advertise on social media and other arts websites.   Review all applications, select applications, engage with the selected for material requirements, then research and purchase requirements.  When the artists are here work with the artists, community and council to facilitate the show.

MAINTENANCE

When maintenance is required in the houses, organise it.
For example, last week a new oven was ordered. Although the house address was provided, the oven was delivered to the studio. I then transported it to the house, met with Halli the electrician to rewire the plug and install it,  I assisted him with the installation and took the old oven in my car to be recycled.

STUDIO MANAGER – This role is already filled – the details below are just to let you know what duties the other person covers.

Check that all bedrooms in the house have a spare set of linen and towels in the rooms
Meet artists at the house when they arrive, answer questions and explain things about Skagaströnd
Show the artists the studio, or library or dance studio as required.
Maintain the studio in some semblance of order
Paint shelves and artists tables as needed
Organise the artists talks
Answer emails from the onsite artists
Send out emails re artists profiles, then put the profiles on social media
Send out emails re someone creating the flyer
Organise the open studio event
Manage all social media
Keep updated the guidelines booklet and the house booklets
Help artists with their requirements such as arranging meetings with locals as needed.
Organise visits for the artists to Dagný at the museum and to Dagný for the goats and horses,  and if available visits to BioPól.
Monday to Friday visit the studio, talk to artists and make sure they have everything and they have settled in well.
Facilitate introductions to locals for artist that require various things for their work
Maintenance – contact the director if needed otherwise ring the appropriate person.
