Shared Open Plan Studio
NES Artists share an open-plan studio located in the old fish factory. The main area is approximately 19.5 x 11.5 meters and is divided into 10-12 spaces. It is a fluid space that artists can shape to their individual practices and needs. In December 2025 we completed a major renovation project in the studio that involved deep cleaning and then painting the floors of four rooms with epoxy-based paint.
A modest selection of tools are available in the studio’s storeroom, including easels, drills, saws, a jigsaw and basic tools (hammers, pliers and screw drivers). We also have a small store of art materials which previous artists have left behind and that may be used by all residents. We suggest artists bring any specific art materials with them.
In addition to the workspace and storeroom, the NES studio also has a kitchen, WC, and small library where you can browse books by past residents. We provide each artists with a worktable, chair, table lamp, and shelving. As the studio is a shared, we ask that artists use low-toxicity materials and avoid heavy scents to protect the safety of fellow artists. While the open plan studio at Fjörubraut 8 is our main workspace with 24/7access, we additionally provide specialized spaces for writers, dancers and sound artists/musicians.
Attached to the NES studio is the “Freezer,” a versatile space which can be used daily by residents.
