Naakai Addy is a Ghanaian-American writer and digital media artist. Her work is grounded in themes of otherness, black womanhood, bodily autonomy, and displacement. Naakai’s short story ‘3-Step Face Mask’ was published in the Sycamore Review in 2021 and won 1st Prize for Nonfiction in the 2020 West Virginia Writers Contest. Through daughterofnai.com, she creates digital collages layered with lyrical prose. Since arriving at NES, Naakai has been working on Come Home, a digital art exploration of belonging and reclamation from systemic violence, as experienced through the character ‘autistiwitch’. Come Home invites an examination of home in its many iterations: human right, earned entity, physical dwelling, internal state, communal experience, elusive / exclusive prize, necessary refuge.
